Celebrate Women’s History Month at Disney
By Samantha Maurice-Africa
March kicks off Women’s History Month, and we’re celebrating women voices and experiences through the power of our unparalleled storytelling iconic brands, creative minds, and innovative technologies.
“Women’s History Month and beyond is an opportunity to highlight the voices and lesser-known stories of women who are making meaningful contributions to our global society,“ said Tinisha Agramonte, Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, The Walt Disney Company.
“Let’s celebrate the unique aspects that women bring to the workplace and the impact on our colleagues and guests,” shares Jacqueline Hefner, Senior Manager, Sports Brands Solutions, Disney Advertising and one of the co-leads for Women’s History Month.
Join Disney in celebrating Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day (March 8) in a variety of meaningful ways throughout March and beyond. Below are a few examples for inspiration.
• Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) will make its streaming debut premiere on March 15, exclusively on Disney+.
• Disney+ brings female-first and female-led narratives to the forefront by spotlighting female trailblazers and role models both on- and off-screen through Celebrate HER Stories.
• Renegade Neil, a quick-witted and courageous young woman, finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious outlaw in 18th-century England. The original Disney+ series premieres on March 29.
• Celebrate all month long and beyond with Hulu’s MADE BY HER: A genre-spanning collection that shows what women can do — as directors, writers, and creators — plus stories that were awarded the ReFrame Stamp for a gender-balanced production.
• National Geographic’s upcoming series, Queens, guided by award-winning actress Angela Bassett’s power narration features matriarchies and female leaders around the world to tell a story of sacrifice and resilience but also of friendship and love. All episodes will stream on Disney+ and Hulu on March 5.
• Season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy premieres on March 14 on ABC, next day on Hulu.
• Don’t miss the series finale of Freeform’s “Good Trouble” on March 5. This series follows Mariana Adams Foster, played by Cierra Ramirez, and the residents of a downtown Los Angeles’ communal living complex as they juggle career, love, and friendship and learn that standing up for what you believe in requires making a little noise and getting into trouble. Cierra started her journey as Mariana over ten years ago on the hit series “The Fosters,” and recently took a big career step by making her Directorial Debut during the final season of “Good Trouble.” Cierra has also appeared in “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” as well as voice over roles in “Marvel Rising.”
• Grown-ish’s final season premieres on March 27 on Freeform, next day on Hulu.
• ESPN will celebrate the breadth and depth of diverse female athletes and female-led stories with a Women’s History Month content across ESPN platforms, including ESPN+.
• Walt Disney World Resort will burst with flavors inspired by some of your favorite women characters, like Tiana, Moana, and Minnie Mouse herself, as well as plenty of delights developed by female food and beverage cast members. Be sure to check the Disney Parks Blog for a Foodie Guide to kick off Women’s History Month.
• Turn up the volume with the Disney Girl Power playlist, created by Disney Music Group, wherever you stream music.
We are all greater than a single story and we all deserve to feel seen, heard and understood, not only during heritage months, but year-round.
More from your favorite Disney brands will be shared throughout the month, and be sure to follow @ReimagineTomorrow on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to share ways you plan to celebrate the month.
